As a mature woman my work is the result of frustrations in relation to others’ expectations and misconceptions of me. Taking up space, unapologetically, has allowed a performative version of myself to emerge. I am interested in this commitment to performativity by mature women on social media sites. My images are made quickly and with materials and props that are to hand. The resulting photographs include filters and digitally drawn elements that build a persona, and my working process can be seen as a playground for the exploration of potential irreverent storytelling, both real and imagined. the post-processing step here is reminiscent of the results of slit-scan camera work and like that technique seems to move the stationary image into a time dependent space
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued at your observation that "a machine sees and understands me better than I did that time" and would like to know what gave rise to that thought? There must have been some aspect of that selfie that gave you a hitherto unseen revelation.
ReplyDeleteHello Fiona! I had a huge anxiety problem at the time, and a lot of creative assignments at university. And i was greatly relieved to find this tool in touchdesigner that basically explained what i should do and what problem to explore in my creative journey. it was a broad concept of noise that i still work with to this day. hope i interpreted your question correctly
