Alice Kin

After a long time being camera shy, a voyeur of others… I landed in an isolated place. Tentatively, I began to turn the lens on myself. As I age, I question my evolving intent, daring myself as I skip the lines of beauty and grotesque.

I would love to be part of an exploration into the whys and curiosities of self portraiture.

  1. Hello.
I am the artist in this photo.
(I'll find a comfortable way to add further thoughts to this).

  2. Self portraiture is fascinating isn't it, especially as older women. I feel we are allowed to be the subject but not when we chose to take agency of ourselves.

  3. But it's all contextual. Your beauty ideal and your idea of grotesque are different to mine! I think you look fabulous here, for the record. Interesting that you have started slowly to allow yourself to be your subject matter and that your intention is evolving as you age. I am glad you are allowing yourself space for that, for change and growth..

  4. Could you share your insight into what this collage means to you? Visually I find it fascinating but I would like to know a bit more. P,s you photograph great! I hope you kept up this project and enjoyed turning the camera on the self. You have got me wanting to try collage.
