[ The Aurora Hale Project] consisted of a series of staged self-portraits that explored what it means to be seen as a woman in society and visual culture. The project was curated for digital presentation and delved into the performances of cultivating an online identity. Drawing a parallel between the history of the female nude, and the modern-day selfie; where we continue to present an artificial version of ourselves for the benefit of the spectator. Starting this project, I saw myself as neither a photographer nor a performer. I was an artist looking for a means of self-expression and found myself straddling the two disciplines. Throughout, I developed a strong interest in the use of the body, self-representation, relationship to the camera, and the performative aspect of photography, all of which are areas of focus of the survey publication. Furthermore, I am interested in the potential for artists to learn from and inform each other's work, as suggested by the open call. By par...

As the number of contributors increase I'm beginning to form better ideas of where the real substance / challenge of this area lies. Using the camera to capture candid moments of the artist's life, both in public and private. This could be done by simply carrying the camera with the artist at all times and taking photos whenever they feel inspired. Alternatively, the artist could set up specific situations or scenarios to photograph, such as staging a self-portrait in front of a mirror or photographing themselves in different locations. Using the camera to explore the artist's own identity and emotions. This could be done by taking photos of the artist's body, face, or clothing, or by photographing the artist in different poses or expressions.  Using the camera to create a visual narrative about the artist's life or experiences. This could be done by taking photos in a specific order or sequence. The artist could also use the camera to create a series of self-portr...

The depiction of cramped living space for extended families.  'Soulless multi-storey gray concrete castles in Brutalist style that could just as easily be slaughterhouses or factories'   'Gray on gray megalomaniacal prefab orgies like they used to do in the 70's'   'Settlements in which boredom, anonymity, depression and crime are bred.' <no single shot supplied>

Since I was a little girl, I've been on a quest, and even began to write a book of poems titled Anthology of the Searcher, no one has ever read the full poems and I hope to handwrite them all in a calligraphic manner. I keep searching whether by reading ancient Chinese philosophy, psalms of David, Stories of the Prophets, the respected and esteemed Holy Books or learning about previous eras and civilisations. I began to work on the initial art open call for Compassionate Women: Kindness in Action, borne out of really searching for positive meaning and authentic humane and cultural examples of kindness to uplift the isolation of Covid-19 era, to show raw examples of kindness in places we wouldn't imagine, and which received a global response. There were a few wonderful female artists who reached out as gifted healers, and their experiences of kindness. This really made me wonder how strong are premonitions and true dreams? What if instinctively we can know some things before t...

Gave myself the confident and respect to be a model whlist taking a time shop to express my looks in lighting and colour as being I was bully and unsociable and expressive as a result The title simply states that the artist and the viewer see the artist for who they are visually and relate with the issue of mental health. My ideas are grounded. However, my imagery is dimensional so others may see this as fictional. These ideas could be seen as horror, fantasy, or surrealism. I develop them further using materials, techniques and skills that can reflect personal life and growth and how people deal with them. The technique used in my latest work gives it a cinematography look, inverting and installing the images to some classic sci-fi and groundwork movies, with imagery from the modern day. My work has a sense of being both finished and unfinished, giving the impression I cannot identify what I am seeing and feeling. I use distinctive colors and light or dark tones to distinguish m...

During the pandemic, performing artists have been confronted with streaming a live performance via Zoom or posting a video of the performance. In this situation, both forms of participation had to be prepared with the help of a camera. A camera placed on a tripod documented and recorded our activities, but also passed them on. Thus, the differences between a self-portrait and a performance in front of the camera are very small. The differences between these two working methods are small but are very interesting to this project. When performing in front of the camera, I focus on myself and the course of action. I don't care about the clarity of my single shot, just the narrative and overall action are important to me. When taking a selfie, I'm only interested in one shot. Selfie mobilizes to capture a clear, interesting moment. Therefore, it requires composition of the frame and posing. from AH's own comment:  When performing in front of the camera, I focus on myself and the...
